When: Tuesday - April 30, 2013 at 7 pm
Where: Merrick Park Golf Course Clubhouse
2550 Clubhouse Road, Merrick, NY 11566
In spring, the earth renews itself. Likewise, our Coalition has been hard at work throughout the winter renewing itself through the formation of a new Coalition of Nassau Civic Associations ("Coalition") with a new constitution/ By-Laws. This new organization has been greatly simplified from it predecessor coalition to now focus more on its primary mission: to better serve as a resource for civic associations throughout Nassau County; share information relating to County matters and its respective governmental entities; and collaboratively address common issues of concern affecting our communities.
The new Coalition's primary governing body is a Council of Delegates with one Delegate representing each Civic Association. This Council of Delegates then elect the Coalition's 11 member Board of Directors (one Director from each District), which then elects the Coalition's officers. The new organization continues to be based on representative districts having relatively equal populations, using the New York State Assembly District lines. Recent redistricting of the Assembly established two additional districts in Nassau County, for a total of 11 districts. Thus, the Coalition's districts also needed to be transitioned accordingly with new By-Laws that reflect the new districts.
All civic associations and their boards in Nassau County are invited to the Coalition's first meeting. Initial membership dues are $1 per civic association, which will provide an opportunity for that civic association to vote for a Director to represent their interests on the new Coalition's Board. Attendees will be seated with their neighboring civic associations within each district. After group discussions, one member from each Member Civic will vote to elect one Director to represent them for their District on the Coalition's Board of Directors.
Planned Agenda:
1. Educational Presentation: "Revitalizing our Downtowns" by Vision Long Island , demonstrating how community projects are organized by civic, resident, merchant groups and municipalities to achieve sustainable development, improved traffic and parking concepts in downtown areas. Anyone interested in attending this meeting is welcome. You do not need to be a member of a civic.
2. CONCA Organizational Meeting and Elections:
a. Introduction
b. Adoption of Bylaws
c. Board of Director Elections
d. Discuss Member Ideas and Concepts
Please RSVP by clicking the CoNCA Registration and Nomination Form that can be completed, saved to your hard drive, then email the completed form to Claudia Borecky at ContactCONCA@gmail.com. $1 dues can be paid at the April 30th meeting.
We look forward to meeting you on April 30th.
